It was by observing children in a school playground that I got the idea for this book. It’s a question which crops up all the time, and not only among children… you simply have to take a look around or listen to the news.

Humour is a formidable weapon.
I am fascinated by jokes: simple stories, often based on repetition, with a punch line throwing a completely different light on what you’ve just heard. Hence the laughter.
I built the story this way: the meetings with the little characters are amusing, but only the ending gives the story its true dimensions (one couldn’t be more appropriate…).

Notice how everything goes well as long as the wolf (symbol of power) gets the answer he’s looking for. He seems nice, almost endearing, but as soon as he’s annoyed, his true nature appears.

In this world based on competition, many of us think a little modesty would do certain people no harm. Anyhow, everything is relative: it depends on who you compare yourself to.
Let’s try to get on well together instead, which would already be a good start!

The meeting with the Seven Dwarfs was inevitable. Since they cross the forest to go to work, it had to happen. And it introduces the topic of terrible work rates. Had you ever considered the fact that the Seven Dwarfs work all day long, under ground, in dreadful conditions, and sing all the while? It’s insane, isn’t it?

What the wolf doesn’t know is that the mother is already on the cover… oh yes, look properly, just behind the wolf.

At the beginning the title was "Who Is the Strongest?", but since it had already been used in the catalogue of l’école des loisirs, it had to be changed.

A recurring question: "Which fairytale does the little rabbit the wolf calls Beautiful Ears come from?" No use racking your brains, there is no fairytale with Beautiful Ears. And it’s a scandal! Why doesn’t the little rabbit have the right to a tale of its own? How does one become a fairytale character? Is it only by chance? Or is it a matter of favouritism, of indulgence?
I hardly dare think about it…

The mystery of the little red bird…
In my first project, the wolf met the little red bird. Finally, I gave up on the idea, but the little bird remained.
It introduces a note of colour into the forest and you can enjoy looking for it, because it moves all the time.
